Meniere's Disease is sometimes misdiagnosed as Acute Vestibular Labyrinthitis

It has been reported that some patients have been misdiagnosed with Acute Vestibular Labyrinthitis, when in fact the correct diagnosis in their specific case was Meniere's Disease.

Meniere’s disease has no cure but there are variable treatment options to reduce the frequency and severity of vertigo attacks. Medications are given for vertigo as well as hearing aids to assist with hearing loss. Surgery is recommended in severe cases. Diagnosis is confirmed by checking medical history including episodes of vertigo, hearing loss and ringing in the ear. Tests to rule out other conditions are usually performed as well.

Always consult your doctor or health professional, and do not self diagnose.

Symptoms can include:

Loss of balance, headaches, nausea and vomiting and sweating caused by vertigo, vertigo, loss of hearing in the affected ear, tinnitus in affected ear, aural fullness

Symptoms are a guideline only and may apply to either the diagnosis or the reported misdiagnosis, or both. Consult your specialist for further information.
