Sepsis is sometimes misdiagnosed as Adrenal Insufficiency

It has been reported that some patients have been misdiagnosed with Adrenal Insufficiency, when in fact the correct diagnosis in their specific case was Sepsis.

Sepsis is a condition that occurs when a patient’s body responds to an infection in a way that damages the patient’s tissues as well as killing the infection. It can cause organs to malfunction and without treatment will result in death. Misdiagnosis of sepsis or an inability of doctors to figure out how the patient was infected doubles the chance of death for the patient. Rapid diagnosis is so important to survival as the patient’s infection must be brought under control with antibiotics before their organs are too damaged to function. But sepsis is incredibly difficult to diagnose due to it not presenting common symptoms in patients.

Always consult your doctor or health professional, and do not self diagnose.

Symptoms can include:

Fever, sweaty skin, chills, breathing difficulty, rapid heart rate, hypotension, extreme pain, confusion or disorientation

Symptoms are a guideline only and may apply to either the diagnosis or the reported misdiagnosis, or both. Consult your specialist for further information.
