Chronic Pancreatitis is sometimes misdiagnosed as Celiac Disease

It has been reported that some patients have been misdiagnosed with Celiac Disease, when in fact the correct diagnosis in their specific case was Chronic Pancreatitis.

Although the damage to the pancreas cannot be reversed, there are several treatments available on reducing the pain and manage the symptoms. Treatment options include medications and endoscopy. Early diagnosis and treatment improve the outlook. Tests to diagnose chronic pancreatitis include blood tests, imaging tests such as ultrasound, CT and MRI scans as well as stool tests.

Symptoms can include:

Epigastric tenderness, weight loss, steatorrhea and glucose intolerance, sudden acute abdominal catastrophe, mild episodes of deep epigastric pain, vomiting, abdominal pain that radiates to the back
