Trichomonas Infection is sometimes misdiagnosed as Chlamydia

It has been reported that some patients have been misdiagnosed with Chlamydia, when in fact the correct diagnosis in their specific case was Trichomonas Infection.

Trichomonas infection is treated by antibiotics. If left untreated the infection can lead to other complications and mainly can increase the risk of HIV infection. Diagnosis is confirmed by testing a vaginal swab in women and a swab from the penile discharge in men.

Always consult your doctor or health professional, and do not self diagnose.

Symptoms can include:

Unpleasant smell, vaginal or vulval itching, yellowy green discharge

Symptoms are a guideline only and may apply to either the diagnosis or the reported misdiagnosis, or both. Consult your specialist for further information.
