Malnutrition is sometimes misdiagnosed as Chronic Kidney Disease

It has been reported that some patients have been misdiagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease, when in fact the correct diagnosis in their specific case was Malnutrition.

Malnutrition is a condition of the body that occurs when insufficient food or an unbalanced diet is consumed. This cause issues with growth in children and thinness in both children and adults. Along with symptoms of bruising easily, thin hair that falls out easily, bones that break easily, gums that bleed easily, night blindness, increased sensitivity to light and tongues that are swollen and cracked. This is generally misdiagnosed as end stage chronic renal disease as they share the same symptoms.

Symptoms can include:

Changes in skin pigmentation, pale and thick and dry skin, swollen or cracked tongue, bruising easily, rashes, thin hair that is tightly curled, hair pulls out easily, achy joints, soft and tender bones, gums that bleed easily, night blindness, increased sensitivity to light
