Pneumonia is sometimes misdiagnosed as Diffuse Alveolar Hemorrhage

It has been reported that some patients have been misdiagnosed with Diffuse Alveolar Hemorrhage, when in fact the correct diagnosis in their specific case was Pneumonia.

Pneumonia is an infection that causes inflammation of the lungs, often causing them to fill with pus and fluid. This causes symptoms in the patient such as a cough, fever, and difficulty breathing. As these symptoms are fairly common across any respiratory infection, pneumonia can be misdiagnosed as pulmonary embolism, lung disease, generalised chest infection or asthma. Without accurate diagnosis and treatment pneumonia can result in the infection travelling into the blood causing sepsis, severe difficulty breathing that results in a ventilator which can all lead to death

Always consult your doctor or health professional, and do not self diagnose.

Symptoms can include:

Shortness of breath, fatigue, fever, sweating and shaking chills, chest pain when breathing or coughing, confusion, changes in mental awareness, dry or productive cough, lower than normal body temperature, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea

Symptoms are a guideline only and may apply to either the diagnosis or the reported misdiagnosis, or both. Consult your specialist for further information.
