It has been reported that some patients have been misdiagnosed with Diverticulosis, when in fact the correct diagnosis in their specific case was Haemorrhoids (piles).
Haemorrhoids are small blood vessels that supply blood to the anus and rectum that over time bulge out. About 75% of adults will have haemorrhoids and can have symptoms such as rectal bleeding, itching and soreness. They share these symptoms with some far more serious conditions such as anal fissures, colon polyps, diverticulosis or colorectal cancer. Haemorrhoids by themselves usually do not need treatment and will go away. If the doctor assumes the patient has haemorrhoids instead of testing for other conditions could lead to cancer and death.
