Lymphoedema is sometimes misdiagnosed as Drug-Induced Edema

It has been reported that some patients have been misdiagnosed with Drug-Induced Edema, when in fact the correct diagnosis in their specific case was Lymphoedema.

Although there is no cure for lymphoedema, there are many treatments aimed on reducing the swelling and preventing complications. Specific muscular exercises help in moving the fluid out. Therapists can also apply compression bandages or manually draining the lymph. Diagnosis is done by reviewing the signs and symptoms. Some patients may be at an elevated risk of developing lymphoedema like patients with recent cancer lymph node surgery.

Always consult your doctor or health professional, and do not self diagnose.

Symptoms can include:

Inability to fully move affected limb, visible swelling, tightness or heaviness in limb, aching or tingling feeling, pitting of the skin

Symptoms are a guideline only and may apply to either the diagnosis or the reported misdiagnosis, or both. Consult your specialist for further information.
