Cold Sore is sometimes misdiagnosed as Herpangina

It has been reported that some patients have been misdiagnosed with Herpangina, when in fact the correct diagnosis in their specific case was Cold Sore.

Cold sores usually require no treatment and resolve on their own in a few weeks. Antiviral medications are given by pills or cream to seed up the healing process. Cold sores are easily diagnosed by a doctor by examining them.

Always consult your doctor or health professional, and do not self diagnose.

Symptoms can include:

Small blisters, pain and tenderness, localised itching and tingling, blisters burst after a few days, crust development on site, crust dries and falls off in 10 days, sensation of heat and burning

Symptoms are a guideline only and may apply to either the diagnosis or the reported misdiagnosis, or both. Consult your specialist for further information.
