Laryngitis is sometimes misdiagnosed as Laryngeal Papillomatosis

It has been reported that some patients have been misdiagnosed with Laryngeal Papillomatosis, when in fact the correct diagnosis in their specific case was Laryngitis.

Laryngitis is the inflammation of your vocal folds from talking, singing and yelling too much, irritation or infection. This causes your vocal folds to swell and distorts the sounds produced from them. They may even lose their voice entirely. Symptoms include hoarseness, weak voice or voice loss, sore and dry throat, and a dry cough. Diseases that have similar symptoms and can cause misdiagnosis includes, gastroesophageal reflux disease, allergies, irritants like alcohol and tobacco, vocal abuse, neoplasia, laryngeal papillomatosis, squamous cell carcinoma and nerve injury (vagus or laryngeal nerve).

Always consult your doctor or health professional, and do not self diagnose.

Symptoms can include:

Tickling sensation and rawness in throat, sore throat, dry throat, dry cough, hoarseness, weak voice or voice loss

Symptoms are a guideline only and may apply to either the diagnosis or the reported misdiagnosis, or both. Consult your specialist for further information.
