Syphilis is sometimes misdiagnosed as Neoplasms

It has been reported that some patients have been misdiagnosed with Neoplasms , when in fact the correct diagnosis in their specific case was Syphilis.

Syphilis is a bacterial infection and if left untreated can lead to very serious health conditions like blindness, damage to the nervous system, brain, other organs and can even lead to death. Pregnant women can pass the infection to their unborn children and cause birth defects or still birth. Treatment is through a course of antibiotics. Diagnosis of syphilis is confirmed by a blood test that detects antibodies produced by the body in response to the infection. Antibodies can take up to 3 months after infection to be detected.

Always consult your doctor or health professional, and do not self diagnose.

Symptoms can include:

Neurological symptoms, pain in the bones and muscles and joints, single painless sore at infection site, swollen lymph nodes, a red rash on hands or body, fever, enlarged glands in the armpits and groin, sore throat, hair loss, weight loss, headaches, tiredness, ulcers in the mouth or nasal cavity or genitals

Symptoms are a guideline only and may apply to either the diagnosis or the reported misdiagnosis, or both. Consult your specialist for further information.
