Lymphoedema is sometimes misdiagnosed as Obesity

It has been reported that some patients have been misdiagnosed with Obesity, when in fact the correct diagnosis in their specific case was Lymphoedema.

If you are experiencing symptoms, your doctor will examine the affected area and assess the level of swelling and any thickening or damage to the skin. Your doctor may refer you to a lymphoedema practitioner for a full assessment. Additional tests may include: volume measurement, photographic record, bioimpedance spectroscopy, doppler ultrasound

Always consult your doctor or health professional, and do not self diagnose.

Symptoms can include:

Inability to fully move affected limb, visible swelling, tightness or heaviness in limb, aching or tingling feeling, pitting of the skin

Symptoms are a guideline only and may apply to either the diagnosis or the reported misdiagnosis, or both. Consult your specialist for further information.
