Irritable Hip is sometimes misdiagnosed as Perthes Disease

It has been reported that some patients have been misdiagnosed with Perthes Disease, when in fact the correct diagnosis in their specific case was Irritable Hip.

Irritable hip is a condition of childhood that causes hip pain and limping. Symptoms of irritable hip include pain in the hip, knee or thigh, restricted movement and an increased temperature. Irritable hip can be misdiagnosed as Perthes disease, fracture or contusion to the hip, tumour in the hip and juvenile idiopathic arthritis.

Symptoms can include:

Restricted movement in one of the hip joints, limping, hip pain, pain in the knee or thigh, a slightly higher temperature than normal
