Scabies is sometimes misdiagnosed as Prurigo Nodularis

It has been reported that some patients have been misdiagnosed with Prurigo Nodularis, when in fact the correct diagnosis in their specific case was Scabies.

Scabies is an extremely contagious skin condition caused by tiny mites that causes intense itching in the areas where the mite burrows. As dermatological conditions are similar looking they need to be diagnosed by a dermatologist and if not can be easily misdiagnosed. The rash from scabies can look similar to psorisasis, eczema, contact dermatitis or papular urticaria.

Always consult your doctor or health professional, and do not self diagnose.

Symptoms can include:

Small bumps or blisters on skin, severe itching

Symptoms are a guideline only and may apply to either the diagnosis or the reported misdiagnosis, or both. Consult your specialist for further information.
