Psoriasis is sometimes misdiagnosed as Ringworm

It has been reported that some patients have been misdiagnosed with Ringworm, when in fact the correct diagnosis in their specific case was Psoriasis.

Psoriasis is a chronic disorder with no cure. The disorder has different types depending on the rash type and location. The condition is not contagious, and treatment is focused on reducing the scaling and inflammation. Treatment options include medications and ointments as well as light therapy. Symptoms are usually clear and enough for the doctor to confirm the diagnosis by looking at the patient’s affected area. If the symptoms don’t give a definite diagnosis, a biopsy can be done.

Always consult your doctor or health professional, and do not self diagnose.

Symptoms can include:

Itchy and painful skin that may crack or bleed, rashes or patches of red and inflamed skins, plaques may grow and merge, bleeding when scratching involved skin, problems with your fingernails and toenails, nails crumble or detach from nail bed, scaly plaques on scalp

Symptoms are a guideline only and may apply to either the diagnosis or the reported misdiagnosis, or both. Consult your specialist for further information.
