Hepatitis A is sometimes misdiagnosed as Toxic Injury

It has been reported that some patients have been misdiagnosed with Toxic Injury, when in fact the correct diagnosis in their specific case was Hepatitis A.

There is no specific treatment for hepatitis A. Treatment is mainly on alleviating the symptoms. Hepatitis A is a self-resolving disease in which the body will fight and clear the virus without the need of further intervention. The diagnosis is done via a blood test. Currently, a vaccine is available and is especially indicated when the person is set to travel to an endemic area.

Always consult your doctor or health professional, and do not self diagnose.

Symptoms can include:

Jaundice, fever, stomach pain, dark urine, nausea

Symptoms are a guideline only and may apply to either the diagnosis or the reported misdiagnosis, or both. Consult your specialist for further information.
