Ovarian Cyst is sometimes misdiagnosed as Tubo-Ovarian Abscess

It has been reported that some patients have been misdiagnosed with Tubo-Ovarian Abscess, when in fact the correct diagnosis in their specific case was Ovarian Cyst.

Ovarian cysts generally require no treatment as they go away on their own. Birth control pills may be required to stop additional cysts from forming, If the cyst doesn’t go away on its own, surgery may be required to remove it. Diagnosis is through a pelvic exam followed by blood tests as well as imaging tests. An ultrasound is used to detect the cysts and their size and characteristics.

Always consult your doctor or health professional, and do not self diagnose.

Symptoms can include:

Painful bowel movements, pelvic pain before or during the menstrual cycle, abdominal bloating or swelling, painful intercourse, pain in the lower back or thighs, breast tenderness, nausea and vomiting

Symptoms are a guideline only and may apply to either the diagnosis or the reported misdiagnosis, or both. Consult your specialist for further information.
